Journal CLOSED [15 Apr 2007|10:38pm]
Moved to bellishness. Probably permanently.

(5 broken destinies | alter your fate)

One of those quarterly posts that I do. [18 Mar 2007|04:38pm]
Summary of my fandom life since I last posted:

Remy, my BJD, has clothes:

I take a lot of pictures of him. And I mean A LOT.

I've been watching more j-dramas than anime as of late. The most recent ones are Ikebukuro West Gate Park and the new KimuTaku drama which has the long Japanese title that I've totally forgotten. The only anime I've been watching is Le Chevalier D'Eon, which has French people, quirky historical references, and zombies.

And I've started to become a fan of Johnny's groups. Yeah, I know, WHAT HAPPENED TO ME I USED TO BE HARDCORE and all that.

If you're a huge Lit geek like me, you might want to join it.

In other news, I recently started playing Resident Evil 4, and MAN is it good. Scaring the piss out of me, but good.

[ mood | nostalgic. or something? ]

WOW, I haven't posted here in a while. I should be ashamed of myself.

Admittedly, I haven't been doing much fandom-wise (besides constantly posting about updated torrents), so I can't say much at the moment. Though, I have been watching a lot of anime. I mean, a lot of anime. Even my fellow anime fan friend thinks I'm a total freak for watching so much anime. In fact, let's go list all the anime I've watched since January!

Completed series
- Monster (Yes, all 70+ episodes.)
- Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo
- Loveless
- Kino's Journey
- Honey and Clover
- Mai-HiMe
- Rose of Versailles
- Princess Tutu
- Samurai Champloo (Yeah, I only finished watching it recently. Sue me.)
- The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

Series put on hold because I'm too much of a lazy ass to finish them
- Eureka Seven (Fansubs, not on AS.)
- Mushishi
- Victorian Romance Emma

Series I'm currently watching
- Ouran High School Host Club
- Samurai 7
- Ergo Proxy
- Black Lagoon
- Kaleido Star
- Honey and Clover II

And that's not including the movies and live-action stuff. I have a strong urge to fic Princess Tutu and Kaleido Star, if not just for the awesomely awesome characters, but I haven't gotten around to it.

For those interested, I still drop by the Naruto fandom once in a while, particularly when Sasuke decided to show his ass again. Though it seems he's disappeared once more, so I go back to lurking.

Can't say that I'll start posting regularly from now on. Just wanted to poke some life back into this place.

Look, everyone! 15 minute analysis of JtHM. [30 Oct 2005|10:58am]
The main message of Johnny the Homocidal Maniac seems to be that American society as a whole is too apathetic and self-absorbed to sympathize with the problems of others, nor do they realize the effect their actions have on the lives of other people.

This message especially applies to Johnny himself. During the course of the graphic novel, Johnny realizes that no matter how public his murders are, or how many corpses are piled up in his basement, people simply don't care enough to solve the murders. This reveals a lot about the extent of Johnny's power, that while his actions have an immediate effect on the people surrounding him, he doesn't have the power to effect society as a whole.

Of course, Johnny uses this reasoning to cheapen the effect of his actions, not realizing that his antics could inspire misguided copies of himself, as proven by the appearance of Jimmy.

It is this ignorance of responsibility and feelings of powerlessness that help create people's apathetic outlooks later in life. Near the end of the graphic novel, Johnny actually comes to the conclusion that apathy and emotionlessness is the correct path. Though Johnny would seem the most unlikely candidate, he may very well blend in with the rest of society as an adult, and become a person too detached from his surroundings to give a damn about anybody else. A sad, but common fate for even the most unique of outcasts.

I've been meaning to write this ever since I first viewed the film. Spoilers from both the movie and novel.

Also, for the record, I am probably the most novel-Howl-biased person in the world, and I make no attempt to hide it.

Without further ado...

Wizard Howl: Novel/Movie ComparisonCollapse )

I'm attempting to make this little essay a bit more leveled by also presenting the views and opinions of other fans, so I desperately need feedback, especially from those who disagree with me.

Thank you for reading, and any comments are greatly appreciated.

Candy Review: Fusen no Mi, Choco Gummy, Ramune Candy [10 Oct 2005|10:46am]
Image hosted by Photobucket.com Lotte's Fusen no Mi

Description: Small fruity gumballs with a very strong, sweet flavor.

Ah, Fusen no Mi. I really don't understand why this gum isn't more popular in America, considering how quickly my classmates got hooked on it. The only con would be that the flavor goes out rather quickly.

Overall: You are inhuman if you dislike this gum.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com Meiji's Choco Gummy

Description: Small gummy pieces covered in chocolate.

Chocolate-covered gummies may sound like a strange combination, but it's actually quite good. In my experience, everyone who tried these seems to like them. As a note, the tube is opened by twisting the top off, not by poking out the hole covers.

Overall: Worth a taste for anyone who's willing to try something a little different.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com Morinaga's Ramune Candy

Description: Ramune-flavored powder tablets.

Personally, I like Senjaku Ame's ramune candy better, but this is good too. I love the packaging, even if it doesn't come with a marble.

Overall: Good, but weak sauce in comparison to Senjaku Ame's version.

Preview: [Revolutionary Girl Utena] Student Council Set - Saionji [09 Oct 2005|11:40pm]
For years, Touga was someone who Saionji would rather avoid. Yet, he always found himself somehow drawn to the other man.

"Where were you yesterday? I thought we agreed to meet at the dojo."

"I had things to do. Things that are more important than sparring."

Things that are more important than you. Touga stirred his tea and preoccupied himself with the sky, the trees - anything but him. Saionji felt a small sense of helplessness towards his situation.

"I thought we were best friends."

Touga sighed. "Must you act like such a child?" he said, then waved him off.

I've been feeling quite full of myself lately. It seemed like a good time to write fic.

Fandom: Twelve Kingdoms (Juuni Kokki)
Title: A Bit Like Love
Characters: En-ou, Enki, Lady Gyokuyou
Notes: Takes place during the first few weeks of En-ou's reign. Mostly gen, with hints towards something a little more.

Escaflowne Thumbnail Theatre - Volume I: Dragons and Destiny [28 Sep 2005|08:16pm]
I'll spare you all the long-winded Escaflowne rant for today. However, I must apologize for the obscene amount of time I took to finish and post this episode. I adore the next episode, so hopefully I will post that one much faster.

In the past few days of stay-at-home sickness, I have discovered the following fandom stuffs:

- Gackt's new album is quite good, especially in comparison to the ballad crap he released last time.
- Deidara go bye bye.
- Castlevania: Symphony of the Night pwns me. Badly.
- Mad Hatter is the best female character ever. She's awesome like WHOA I CAN'T HANDLE IT. So, in light of the Hatter's awesomeness, I have created a color bar!

Title: Picture Perfect
Rating: PG for the creepiness factor
Summary: A series of drabbles, one for each family member, based around my belief that Sasuke's view of his childhood was much more ideal than the reality. Sasuke's POV, for the most part.

Part I - Itachi Analysis [04 Sep 2005|01:47pm]
The Uchiha Flashbacks that occur during chapters 220-224 are simply referred to as "the flashbacks."

Remember, this is just my interpretation and it is in no way set in stone. Feel free to make your own analysis.

Comments, questions, and rebuttals are very welcome.

Anime bootlegs are notorious for having poor subtitles. Whether it's grammar, name changes, rampant Engrish, or if the translation simply makes no sense, you're bound to have fun when reading a bootlegged script.

[Click here for a great example.]

With this in mind, I bring you:

Note: The screencaps are not from a real bootleg, obviously. They were all photoshopped by yours truly.

Actually, there's only 6 of them. Also, check out the new layout! In my opinion, it's the best one I've made. Though, it probably looks like crap if you don't have 800x600 resolution.

Escaflowne Thumbnail Theatre - Volume I: Dragons and Destiny [26 Aug 2005|06:09pm]
As I've stated before, I love Allen. Though, I love him for all the reasons I'm assuming most people would dislike him for. He may be chivalrous in his ideals, but with women, he's a manipulator. He has power over certain women, and he knows it. He uses body language to make women act or respond the way he wants them to. It comes so naturally to him, that I don't consider this behavior to be an act.

Of course, he doesn't act this way around all women. Just look at how he treats Merle - he ignores her. He knows she has no interest in him, so he ignores her completely.

Just felt I needed to explain my view on Allen, since the way I write him is VERY different from how he is in the series.

Escaflowne Thumbnail Theatre - Volume I: Dragons and Destiny [21 Aug 2005|09:43pm]
Back when I was still downloading Escaflowne, instead of watching my GLORIOUS DVDs, I was forced to download a couple episodes dubbed. My general opinion of the dub is that it could be worse, but it could be a lot better. At least the script seemed okay, which is a definite plus. As far as voice acting goes...

I liked Merle. That was about it.

Van and Allen seem to suffer from the occasional badly delivered line. Dilandau sounds too 13-year old punk.

In my opinion, Millerna has it worst. Her VA sounds too old and her dialogues have badly delivered lines flying all over the place.

Though, I still get a kick out of hearing Dilandau say, "HAH!!" Goku style before punching one of his manslaves.

So remember, kids: Millerna's English VA = Emotionless Cyborg
